We are United By Faith

Faith is more than a belief, it’s a lifestyle.

We all have made the decision to follow God’s will throughout our lives, and we gather regularly to encourage each other. Our Sunday morning services are a chance for us to worship and learn together, and our mid-week services are a great pick-me-up to re-enter the world.

We believe that the longer you are a Christian, the more responsibility you have to teach and reach others. Our Bible classes are led by teachers who not only know how to help children grow towards God, but have a passion for it. Our lessons are timely and Bible-based, always with the goal to make you a stronger Christian on your way out the door.

Lots of things can divide us in this world, but worshipping at O’Connor Road gives us an opportunity to be reminded of what unites us: Faith.

Obedient, grace-filled, Bible-based, and passionate faith.

Statement of Diversity

“God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him;
male and female He created them.”

The O’Connor Road church of Christ is a very diverse church made up of men and women, young and old, tongues of English and Spanish, and a wide variety of skin tones, races, and cultures as God intended. We are not segregated. We are united.

We are a fully bilingual congregation. The English and Spanish brethren who comprise the church assemble and worship together. The services are conducted in English, but we have a translator who translates in real-time and Spanish speaking brethren and visitors can hear the translation in real-time via a headset. This is done at all of our services.

The eldership of this church presently consists of 3 men.  One is of Japanese-American descent, another of both Spanish and Native-American descent, and another Caucasian.  Two of the Shepherds are inter-racial couples by worldly standards; though we are all part of the human race created by God to His glory.

There are presently 7 inter-racial couples that are a part of this church.  We also have a couple that has fostered and adopted a child of a different race (in addition to other children). We have a few scripturally “blended” families that have taken on children of their own.

We have a good mix of all ages of brethren, ranging from new-born all the way up to a beautiful vibrant young 95-year-old!  We have a solid group of young people with ages spanning the school-age spectrum.  We have several singles both youth and senior.  We only have males and females because that’s all God created.

It is a blessing to be a part of a richly diverse group of followers of Jesus Christ.  People who believe in one another.  People who love one another. (John 13:34-35) People who do not want to be segregated by differences, but united by faith. (Ephesians 4:1-6)

We are striving to be a light in this community in all aspects of the faith. (Matthew 5:14-16)  Whether you are visiting the area or live here and are looking for a congregation to be a part of; we hope you will join us and feel welcomed by the love of Christ in our hearts for you and one another; and especially God.

What Does the Church of Christ Believe In?

O’Connor Road church of Christ believes in first, most of all, the grace of God and His authority in all things. We believe in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and that all things lie and move through Him (Col. 1:17). We rely less on human opinions and take as our authority the inspired Word of God.

Why Does the Church of Christ Not Have Instruments?

This is a common question, and a great one. We get asked all the time why we don’t have instruments, but the real question is, “Why do other churches insist on using instruments?” God commanded us to sing to each other (Eph. 5:18; Col. 3:16) and that our lips produce the worship God wants (Heb. 13:15). That’s what God wants, so thats what we give Him.

Why Do I Not Read About the Church of Christ in the Bible?

You do! In Romans 16:16, Paul says that the “Churches of Christ salute you.” This isn’t a church title, as much as it is a description of churches that belong only to Christ.

Does the Church of Christ Celebrate Easter or Christmas?

Per Colossians 2, we don’t celebrate any official holiday other than taking communion every Sunday to remember Jesus’ crucifixion (Acts 20:7). Anything beyond that is a matter of personal conviction.

Is O’Connor Road Affiliated with the Mormon Church, United Church of Christ, or Church of Christ Scientist?

Not even close. We have no governing bodies and are not affiliated with any outside organizations. We are 100% autonomous and take our instructions from the Bible. Any resemblance to other churches is coincidental.
